Llanidloes & District Angling Association was formed in 1921 and
manages the fishing on Llyn Clywedog, one of the most scenic attractions in Mid
Wales and only 4 miles from Llanidloes. The lake is stocked with over
18,000 Rainbow Trout and 9,000 Brown Trout, of the highest quality,
every season.
The season begins for both Rainbows and Browns on March 18th. The Brown
Trout season finishes on 7th October with the Rainbows closing on the
30th November.
There are regular competitions held each year such as the European Bank
Competition in June and Angling Clubs are also welcome to hold their
own Bank or Boat competitions on the lake by arrangement with the Club
Secretary.
There are 15 boats available for hire and boat and fishing permits are available from Woosnam &
Davies Newsagents, Longbridge Street, Llanidloes, Powys. Telephone 01686 412263. Fly Tying, Fly Casting and Fly Fishing guide services can
also be arranged locally on request – just ask Dalis on the contact
details above (Please note that this number is also the contact for
Carol’s Hair Salon).
There are also several designated picnic areas around the lake with
excellent viewing points and car parking facilities, so not only is
Clywedog an ideal destination for fishing but it also offers a real
treat for bird watchers. Red Kites, Osprey, buzzards and peregrines can
all be seen, not to mention the host of migrant birds that arrive such
as wheatears, winchants, swifts and swallows.
Strictly fly fishing only.
